1. “Raise” a low ceiling by painting it a very light blue. The color will add height and open up any room.
2. Add warmth to a room by painting the ceiling a very light pink or light creamy yellow.
3. When working in a room with dark trim, use one color for the walls and a lighter shade of the same color (half of the formula) for the ceiling. This will unify the room.
4. Choose three main colors to decorate your home, plus neutrals. Use different shades of these colors throughout your house and it will be unified. This makes it much easier to move furniture from room to room if needed!
5. Store paint in a climate-controlled environment with the lids on tight and the cans turned upside down. For every room, keep a list of each color used.
6. Write the color on the can, not the lid, as lids get moved around and can be placed on top of the wrong color.
7. Use olive oil to remove oil-base paint from your skin; this really works well if a small child gets into toxic oil paints.
8. Once you choose a color, try moving one shade lighter on the color chart. Colors magnify and reflect off of each other, and tend to look darker when on the walls.
9. When applying decorative finishes, always take off the tape immediately, while the paint is still wet.
10. Choose a vibrant or punchy color for entrance halls that get a lot of light. These colors are fun to look at from other rooms but are not necessarily shades you want to linger in for long periods of time.
