How to Paint Panels
Adding panels to a room creates art on your wall space. Panels can be as simple or intricate as you desire.
Measuring and painting panels
1. For each panel, measure down an equal distance (6" to 8" or 15 to 20 cm) from each corner of the ceiling and mark a horizontal line with chalk. Also measure in the same distance from both sides of the panel's wall, and draw a vertical chalk line to mark this distance (Photo 1).
2. Measure up the same distance from the baseboard and make the line in chalk.
3. Start to tape off the panel, aligning the bottom of the tape on the chalk line (Photo 2).
4. Continue taping off in the same way to create vertical outlines for your panel (Photo 3).
5. Apply the glaze with a rag inside the taped area of the panel (Photo 4).
6. For this panel, we then taped off a 1/4" (6 mm) border (Photo 5) by adding a second line of tape 1/4" inside the first line, after the glaze was dry.
7. Paint the inner border lines pink with a small artist's brush (Photo 6). An outer brown 1/2" (1.3 cm) border was added later.
8. Once the inner border is dry, remove the inner round of tape (Photo 7).
9. For the rest of the panels in your design, proceed as for the panel described above.
10. For the outer, brown border, mark chalk lines a few inches (5 to 7 cm) out from the first border, and put tape lines on both sides of the border space as you did for the inner border; however, leave a 1/2" (1.3 cm) space between the tape lines instead of a 1/4" (6 mm) space for the paint. Use the small artist's brush to paint the brown border. When everything is dry, remove the tape.
